Why see Columbus Symphony Orchestra - Tchaikovsky Spectacular?
Works of a Master
Conducted by Rossen Milanov, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra performs a selection of Tchaikovsky's greatest works at the Ohio Theatre. On the program is his masterful Violin Concerto, Symphony No. 6 (Pathetique) and the prelude to The Queen Of Spades. Joined by the virtuosic talent of soloist Aubree Oliverson for the Violin Concerto, don't miss this spectacular showing of one of history's finest composers.
An enduring lyrical masterpiece, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto is one of the composer's most beloved works, and was once deemed 'unplayable'. Written in 1878 in a Swiss resort following the breakdown of his marriage, it is considered a welcome addition to the composer's oeuvre and despite its technical difficulties, has gone on to become a popular request in the repertoire. Tchaikovsky's last ever completed work, Symphony No. 6., is one of the definitive works of the romantic period. Its soul-stirring emotion and moving lyrical genius is often overshadowed by the composer's untimely death just nine days after its premiere in 1893. Meanwhile, The Queen of Spades' Prelude serves as a dramatic and foreboding introduction to the opera. With its dark, tense orchestration, it foreshadows the psychological turmoil and tragic downfall of the protagonist, Hermann.
